Have you ever wondered: WHY go to the Holy Land? Because by going on pilgrimage to the Holy Land, invited by the Lord, we are entering His intimacy as we can get to know and contemplate the Holy places and pray at them. Seeing what His eyes saw, following in His footsteps… Because He invites us to an encounter with His person, alive in every corner of His Land.
-Because on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, we will understand better what we sing: “Lord, with Your eyes set upon me
Gently smiling, You have spoken my name” and that Jesus calls us to a new life, that He loves us and wants to count on us for the plan He has for each one of us in His Mystery of Salvation.
-Because on Calvary, we will understand that His death, His greatest gesture of love, was for me.
-Because in the empty Tomb, in the Holy Sepulchre, Heaven opens for us, with the hope of the Resurrection…
…and so, in every place we visit, reliving the 33 years of the life of Jesus and His eternal love for us.
But…, what if we also wonder: WHAT is the pilgrimage FOR?
-To respond to the call to conversion, to the Lord’s invitation (because, ultimately, although we believe that it is our own decision, the initiative always comes from Jesus), to know His land, His home, and to better understand His Word. We stop being listeners to become a part of the stage where He spoke, He made miracles, He gave His life for us. He is speaking to us and healing us!
–To know and embrace our Christian brothers who live there. True “living stones”, who, against all the political, social and economic inconveniences, give their all, their life! So that we do not lose our great treasure: the Holy Places. They are our dearest Christian family, who with their presence are caring for and protecting these holy places for us, with a great deal of difficulty. So that they can feel that their sacrifice is worth it, that we accompany them.
-To help these Christians by creating sources of employment, with our presence at a hotel or at a restaurant, or buying the mother-of-pearl or olive wood objects that they learned to manufacture years ago from the Franciscan friars to make a living. This help to the Christians of the Holy Land is a way to thank the Lord for the gift of taking us by His hand to His Land.
-To support all religious orders that work there to avoid that the Holy Places become museums. To get to know the task they perform there with children, including disabled children, elderly people, women, rehabilitation of houses, scholarships, and if possible, committing ourselves to any of these projects.
-To return and tell about our experience and to encourage others to have this encounter with the Lord in His house…, our house.
-To go back! Once we experience it, we will see that once is not enough. The Lord awaits us again to go deeper into his Mystery of Love.
Now all that’s left is… to pack your bags and listen to the Lord!
